HP says Autonomy committed fraud

For some reason the mail archiving & e-discovery space seems to attract frauds.According to an article in the Wall Street Journal HP, who bought Autonomy, "has informed the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as the U.K.'s Serious Fraud Office" about representations Autonomy made before HP bought the company.
Another company in this space had an executive charged with fraud, a third one kept selling stock yet always lost money. A fourth one was also charged by the SEC.
Then there is what seems like a patent troll going after multiple companies in this space, just to make things worse.
What is so special about mail archiving & e-discovery?
